Dar es Salaam. The Wasafi Company has announced the official start of the Wasafi Festival 2023 which is expected to kick off on September 2, this year until the end of December in the country and abroad.
Speaking to the press today August 5, the director of the company, Naseeb Abdul popularly known as ‘Diamond Platnumz’, said that the festival with the slogan ‘Wasafi Festival Imeendaaa’ will be held in Mtwara region at Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium.

Diamond mentioned that the other regions that will follow are Mwanza where it will be held for the registration of artists followed by Mtwara, Lindi and other regions will be announced later while Nairobi is expected to be held on December 31 this year. Along with turning on Wasafi FM.

He said that apart from including local artists, the festival will also bring foreign artists, including those from Nigeria and the United States who have been working closely with them.
Diamond, the star of the Mbagala, Sikomi, Baila and African Beauty hits, said that the money raised in the festival will help the community in the region, including buying uniforms for students in schools and providing capital to 200 mothers.
“We want this festival every time it comes to benefit the local residents and not just go to take their money and spend money, and from the beginning we will help the mothers,” he said.

Regarding the artists, he said that all those who are doing well in this country will be there while saying that he wishes even Ali Kiba would be there too.
“I wish my brother Ali Kiba is also there and I believe my leadership will start a conversation with him and when he is there, if he is following the clean ones, he should know that we would need his presence, because we have to get out of the bad music and go into making money and helping the community around us,” he said.

The idea of the Wasafi festival started through Diamond’s fans on a WhatsApp group called Wasafi fans with 5 lakh members who gave the idea of why Wasafi should not have their own festival involving only the artists of the Wasafi label. The idea reached Diamond himself and he worked on it.
In 2016 Wasafi started that festival and it was received in a big way and it started with the only sponsor was Vodacom and it was held in Dar, Iringa and Zanzibar. In 2017 it was held with the aim of improving it even more but also that year Wasafi had a lot of shows abroad so they decided so.
Diamond saw that the festival should not only involve Wasafi artists, they saw that there were other artists outside of Wasafi and they started doing it in 2018 here, the sponsors increased from one to 5 including Pepsi and even designed the stage for the festival in a different way than in 2016 but they also added value by deciding also do it abroad, they did it in Kenya and Oman.
