Cape Town City History
When South African entrepreneur and former professional soccer player John Comitis acquired the franchise rights of the disbanded Mpumalanga Black Aces F.C., Cape Town City was brought back to life. Although Comitis eventually sold his shareholding in 2013, he was one of the two co-founders of Ajax Cape Town F.C. In 2016, Comitis acquired the defunct Black Aces soccer team from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, and moved it to Cape Town with a franchise license.
A professional football team from South Africa named Cape Town City Football Club competes in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The original Cape Town City FC football team was established in 1962, and it was reorganized in 2016. The team’s training facility is located at Hartley vale Stadium, the club’s old home field from 1962 to 1977, while the squad plays its home games at Athlone Stadium.

In the Cape Town district of Athlone, Athlone Stadium serves as the home field for Cape Town City.
The team announced in 2018 that they would start utilizing Hartleyvale Stadium for training purposes but still playing their home games at Athlone Stadium.
Rivalries
There are numerous minor derbies in Cape Town because there are so many football clubs in the city. The biggest derby matches, however, are those against Cape Town Spurs FC (formerly Ajax Cape Town FC), the second-largest club in the city. Close rivals include Stellenbosch FC (formerly Vasco de Gama FC), another DStv Premiership team.
