Jinsi ya Kujisajili Bodi ya Taifa ya wahasibu na Wakaguzi wa Hesabu The National Board of Accountants and Auditors Tanzania (NBAA) is an institution that registers and manages Accountants and Auditors and regulates the Accounting profession in the country. NBAA was established by the Accountants and Auditors Act, Chapter 286 as revised in 2002. The National Board of Accountants and Auditors is under the Ministry of Finance. The board was established in 1972 and began to do its official work from January 15, 1973.

Since its founding, NBAA has played a vital role in the growth of Tanzania’s accounting industry, especially in the areas of exam administration, registration, standards-setting, and motivation. By advancing the accounting industry in Tanzania, NBAA hopes to significantly contribute to the promotion of good governance.
The accounting industry contributes significantly to boosting economic expansion and company confidence. As a professional organization, NBAA members significantly impact both the public and private sectors. In addition, NBAA offers a unified voice for the industry and helps members and stakeholders with a range of services.
Procedure for Registration and Admission of new Members
- Candidates for Board membership must be CPA(T) holders or its equivalent and have at least three years of real-world experience.
- For the purposes of examination entry and/or NBAA membership, the Board now recognizes the majority of international accounting qualifications from member bodies of the International Federation of Accountants [IFAC].
- The 1997 NBAA Registration and Membership Bylaws now include the specific registration requirements. Among the steps involved in registration are:
- Completing and sending in an application form together with the required payment.
- Submission of academic and professional certificates in their original form, together with one photocopy.
- Submission of two current, passport-sized images of the candidate.
- Listing of a minimum of two NBAA-registered referees.
- Registration fee payment.
- Obtaining a “good standing” letter from the professional association of the candidate.
VETTING CRITERIA FOR REGISTRATION & ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS

Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice—CPA-PPs
Qualifications
Only applicants with the CPA(T) professional qualifications or its equivalent will be registered in this category. Foreign applicants may be required to produce a practicing certificate from a recognized professional body of their country of origin or any other country from which his/her professional certificates were obtained.
Experience
The applicants must have had at least 3 years post-qualifying experience under the supervision of a Certified Public Accountant in Public Practice or must hold a practicing certificate from recognized professional bodies elsewhere.
Referees
Three responsible persons, including the employer, act as referees, two of whom must be professional accountants registered as Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice with NBAA who know the applicant professionally and are able to vouch from personal knowledge of the applicant’s audit/accounting experience and character.
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs)
Qualifications
Kujisajili na NBAA Only applicants with the CPA(T) professional qualifications or its equivalent will be registered in this category.
Experience
The applicants must have had at least 3 years post-qualifying experience.
Referees
- Referees are three responsible individuals, including the applicant’s employer. Two of these individuals must be professional accountants who are registered with the NBAA as Certified Public Accountants or Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice. They must have a professional relationship with the applicant and be able to personally attest to the applicant’s character and accounting/auditing experience.

Accounting Technicians
- The management is in charge of screening this category. However, during the screening process, the management must determine whether the applicant possesses the following:
Qualifications
- This category will only accept applicants who have earned an ATEC or its equivalent.
Experience
- A minimum of one year of post-qualifying experience is required of the applicants.
Referees
