Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA) Vacancies March 2024, Jobs The Chief Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (MMS) was established under the Chief Government Chemist Laboratory Authority Act No. 8 of 2016. Along with other responsibilities, the Authority Act gives the Authority the responsibility of being the top body and Laboratory of Appeals in all matters relating to forensic science and genetic services, product quality and chemical management.
The Authority of the Chief Government Chemist’s Laboratory has gone through various changes from being a Department within the Ministry, an Agency between 1999-2016 and becoming an Authority from April 5, 2017 until now. Historically, this authority started as a center to conduct research on tropical diseases at the national laboratory in 1895 and was later transferred to the Ministry of Health after the First World War in 1947.

Between 1947-1959 the Laboratory was transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and from 1958 until now the Laboratory is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health. The Authority of the Laboratory of the Chief Chemist of the Government as an Authority has strengthened the effective implementation of its responsibilities, the achievement of its goals, responsibilities and vision, thus contributing to the efforts of the Government in improving the well-being of its people and the environment
