Sanitation and Hygiene Promoter at Lifewater, In areas that most need it, Lifewater, a well-known faith-based non-profit and community development organization, is transforming lives by providing sustainable access to clean water and better sanitation and hygiene.
Position Overview
Using Lifewater International’s Vision of a Healthy Village (VHV) strategy, the Sanitation and Hygiene Promoter is in charge of ensuring that sanitation and hygiene promotion is successful and that long-lasting behavioral change occurs at the household, community, and school levels in order to measurably improve the quality of life for vulnerable children and families.
The Sanitation and Hygiene Promoter’s primary responsibilities include:
- Promotion of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) at the community level
- Encourage and assist WASH facilitators to employ VHV programs to reach all households, especially those who are at risk, in their target communities.
- Sign up for Healthy Homes.
- Encourage the SHC to promote WASH at the school level.
- Encourage target communities’ Community-Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs).
- Evaluate the suitability and efficacy of the sanitation and hygiene tactics and make the necessary recommendations to SHC.
- collecting, recording, and sharing stories in accordance with Lifewater International requirements for the weekly status reporting of SHC Water and Sanitation Infrastructures.
- Participate in program evaluations by carrying out baseline and end-line research.

Work Experience and Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- A university degree, ideally in one of the following areas: public health, education, social work, community psychology, social sciences, or community development.
- Experience directing instruction at the home and community levels (e.g., as a school teacher, government health worker, or with a non-governmental group)
- Although it is not necessary, familiarity with WASH promotion techniques like CLTS or PHAST is desirable.
- Possession of a current driver’s license and the ability to ride a motorcycle.
- Familiarity with smartphone applications.
- We must be prepared to work in remote areas, provide services, and remain in close proximity to the populations we serve.
- Fluency in Swahili and English is required. It will be beneficial to know the local languages used by Shinyanga communities.
