The Nyanzaga Gold Project’s owner, Perseus Mining, is looking to hire a lawyer to help with its business in Tanzania. In Tanzania, the Legal Counsel will oversee all legal and compliance matters for Perseus, including company secretarial duties for Perseus Tanzania firms.

Position Purpose
Roles and responsibilities
- Create, negotiate, oversee, and carry out business and legal documentation.
- Monitor the submission of reports, paperwork, and applications to the government.
- As needed, communicate with the government on legal, compliance, and other issues.
- Give management advice on compliance and legal issues.
- Organize and record board meetings for Perseus Tanzania entities, as well as oversee and manage any corporate governance and compliance issues.
- Help with the prompt creation of legal department budgets and projections.
- Reach the predetermined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the fiscal year.
- Communicate with outside attorneys on behalf of all Perseus Tanzania businesses.
- Before any contract is executed, make sure it has been properly authorized.
- Determine and report any procedural violations or internal control flaws affecting Perseus Tanzania’s operations.
- Communicate with Perseus managers and the government to guarantee prompt permit approvals and renewals.
- Within the group, offer suggestions for new and proposed laws, and when required, give the government input.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations that impact Perseus’s operations, particularly those related to government reporting requirements.
- Participate in cost-cutting Business Improvement Initiatives (BII).
- Provide managers and HR employees with guidance on local employment issues and compliance with industrial relations laws.
- Assist operations with employee relations to guarantee adherence to Tanzanian labor regulations.
- To ensure prompt resolution approval, communicate with Perseus Tanzania’s’ external directors and government shareholders.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Tertiary legal education (a prerequisite for admission as an advocate).
- Ten or more years of in-house or law firm experience in corporate and commercial law.
- It is preferable to have mining law experience.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian authorities.
- Sound knowledge of the Tanzanian legal system.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills.
