Department Summary
The Mercy Corps driver is responsible for all the operation functions in Tanzania that were assigned. The Mercy Corps Operation Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corpsā internal policies and procedures. In its role as a support to the program department, the driver will provide timely reports and support the operations and program teams to ensure all operations are well used efficiently and effectively.
General Position Summary
Along with following Mercy Corps SOPs, policies, and traffic laws, the driverās duties include securely transporting program and operating workers and guests, keeping the vehicle clean, providing timely maintenance, and guaranteeing steady fuel availability.
Ā Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
- As directed, drive Mercy Corps program vehicles to ensure the safe and effective transportation of employees and guests.
- As needed, assist with delivering shipments, letters, and other pertinent items to different offices and enterprises.
- When necessary, make long-distance travels with or without Mercy Corps personnel while adhering to Mercy Corps guidelines and all applicable traffic rules.
- Maintain the carās cleanliness and condition at all times, and make sure that all required paperwork (such as the driverās license and insurance) is up to date.
- Make regular inspections and maintenance of the car, checking the water levels, tire pressures, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, oil, and gasoline.
- To guarantee compliance with service schedules and notify the fleet team and supervisor ahead of time when a vehicle is scheduled for maintenance, keep an exhaustive record of all vehicle maintenance.(Make sure the car receives regular, high-quality maintenance; report any mechanical issues for approval of repairs or replacement parts.)
- Provide guests and Mercy Corps employees with general help.
- Fill out all required forms, keep track of all jobs completed, and record fuel use. Report any accidents, incidents, or strange events as soon as possible and provide an account.
- If you are in an accident, do the appropriate actions as specified by the rules and regulations.
- Respect all guidelines and policies established by Mercy Corps.
- Perform any additional tasks that the supervisor assigns you.
Qualification, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Possessing a higher education degree or a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) [Form Four Certificate].
- Fluent in both Kiswahili and written and spoken English.
- An experienced driver with a spotless driving record who has driven 4WD manual cars in towns and upcountry areas for a long time while working with foreign organizations.
- A valid Class C driverās license and at least eight (8) years of work experience are prerequisites.
- It will be advantageous to have a Trade Test Grade II or Drivers Grade II Certificate from an accredited organization like NIT or VETA.
- Integrity at the highest level is necessary.
- Proficiency with computers is an additional benefit.

They will be able to do duties assigned to them with a high degree of quality and in a timely manner, all while paying close attention to detail.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
- The role is based in Ulyankuru Tabora and is unaccompanied. Team members are expected to act professionally and respect local laws, customs, and MCās policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues. Sometimes, working on the weekends and in the evenings is necessary to meet deadlines and during stressful or shock-related situations.
