Job Summary:
Manage cash transactions and provide customer assistance within the branch premises.
Job Description:
Cash Handling:
Processing cheque encashments and withdrawals. Supervising fellow tellers at the counter. Handling both cash and cheque deposits/credits. Facilitating foreign currency transactions. Addressing general customer queries at the cash counter. Maintaining personal cash drawer balance and assisting colleagues with balancing when necessary. Preparing vouchers for further processing in the central processing unit or back-office. Promoting bank products and services to customers. Referring customers to relevant bank offerings. Occasionally assuming the role of a Customer Service Advisor to ensure exceptional service at the counter. Resolving customer queries and complaints promptly and taking ownership when required. Assisting with ATM card printing as needed.
Cash Management – Strong Room Oversight:
Sorting and replenishing cash reserves. Monitoring strong room cash levels to ensure compliance with predetermined limits. Placing orders for branch cash based on established guidelines. Promptly escalating cash-related issues to designated supervisors. Ensuring proper packaging of cash by ront-line staff. Providing input on cash reorder levels to the Head Custodian as per demand.
Ensuring reconciliation of all tellers and vaults before branch closure. Acting as a co-custodian as needed. Coordinating interactions between tellers and vault personnel.
Cash Management – ATM Operations:
Refilling ATM cash reserves. Sorting cash for ATMs to ensure cleanliness and usability. Reporting mechanical failures to external maintenance services with minimal disruption. Independently reconciling ATM cash on a daily basis. Maintaining ATM uptime and addressing minor faults proactively. Regularly inspecting ATMs in the area to ensure operational status and sufficient cash supply. Promptly reporting any required ATM maintenance to designated managers.
Colleague Support:
Providing backup support for branch custodial duties. Offering honest, constructive feedback to colleagues. Sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices within the team.
Risk and Controls:
Ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards, Absa Operational Risk Framework, and internal policies. Effectively managing risks by adhering to applicable frameworks and fostering a positive risk culture. Understanding individual role within end-to-end processes, including relevant risks and controls. Adhering to Absa’s policies and procedures, exercising sound judgment and risk management. Reporting all risk events/incidents using prescribed channels and actively contributing to preventive measures. Engaging with regulatory bodies and unions proactively as necessary.
Completing all mandatory training within specified deadlines.
Education:
Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies (Required).
