COMMERCIAL EVENTS MANAGER
Job Purpose
The Commercial Events Manager is in charge of planning and executing successful events that complement MCL’s revenue and strategic goals. From conception to delivery, the position entails creating, overseeing, and carrying out event concepts. Securing sponsorships, increasing sales, developing strategic alliances, and making sure events like expos, summits, and festivals are executed successfully are some of the main duties.
To produce memorable events that increase MCL’s brand awareness and generate income, the manager will collaborate closely with internal teams, sponsors, and outside sales agents.
Key Responsibilities
1. Partnerships, Sales & Sponsorship Development
- Develop connections with possible partners, sponsors, and interested parties.
- To secure sales, create customized sales pipelines and work with internal and external sales teams.
- Make sponsorship offers, work out agreements, and increase event profits.
- Before, during, and after events, make sure that all partnership deliverables are fulfilled.
2. Sales, Expansion & Management
- Develop and increase the sales team’s ability to manage several events at once in an inventive manner.
- Teach and mentor the sales force to effectively generate ideas and close deals.
- Encourage constructive behavioral and mental changes in MCL’s sales and corporate culture.
- Promote events as an essential part of MCL’s plan to diversify its sources of income.
3. Event Planning & Management
- Create event concepts and present them to internal stakeholders to gain their approval.
- Oversee all aspects of event planning, such as vendor selection, permits, venue selection, and on-site coordination.
- Manage personnel assignments, timetables, and budgets to guarantee efficient execution.
- Put backup measures into action to handle unforeseen difficulties.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Work together with the editorial, marketing, and communications departments to match events to MCL’s goal.
- Establish and preserve connections with suppliers, community partners, and leaders in the industry.
5. Budget & Financial Management
- Create and keep an eye on event budgets to make sure resources are used efficiently.
- Following each event, provide thorough financial reports.
6. Event Reporting & Evaluation
- To gauge success and pinpoint areas for improvement, conduct post-event assessments.
- Provide thorough event reports that include information on attendance, comments, and the overall impact.
- Showcase the impact and reach of events outside of MCL’s media network using digital tools.
7. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and health regulations for all events.
- Conduct site inspections and enforce safety protocols to mitigate risks.
Performance Expectations
- Sales: Achieve 100% of monthly and quarterly sales targets.
- Collections: Ensure 100% collection of outstanding debts.
- Customer Service: Address all complaints within 24 hours.
- Impact Reporting: Submit reports within 14 days of each event.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of seven years’ experience in commercial event management and sales, including four years in a leadership position.
- Demonstrated proficiency in organizing extremely successful events and experiences.
- Strong understanding of using digital and legacy media to promote and engage with events.
- Knowledge of event technologies, such as tools for impact measurement, audience management, and consumer information.
- Outstanding abilities in communication, negotiation, project management, analysis, organization, and presentation.
- A track record of effectively managing salespeople and making data-driven choices.
- A bachelor’s degree in any field.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- Post-graduate qualifications or a Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MSc, MCom, MA).
- Proficiency in:
- Visual Design Tools: Canva, Keynote, PowerPoint
- Data Tools: Excel, DataWrapper
- Digital Analytics: SEMrush, Keyhole
- Consumer Intelligence: Meltwater
