Through the Department of Technical and Vocational Training (DVET), Bookkeeper Jobs at Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is working closely with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MOEST) to deliver the Employment through Empowerment Program (ESP) in Tanzania.
The Government of Canada is funding the Empowerment through Skills Program, a seven-year (2021-2028) initiative that will help create and implement skill-training programs for women and teenage girls employed in both the formal and informal sectors across the nation. Social and economic empowerment will result from offering institution-based and community-based training programs at Folk Development Colleges (FDCs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in 12 communities, as well as from bolstering the family, financial, and counseling support networks that women require to succeed in important growth sectors.
Job Summary
General Expectations
Processing daily financial transactions, keeping accurate financial records with all necessary supporting documentation, entering transactions in the project’s financial journal, assigning transactions to the general ledger accounts, creating monthly financial reports, processing and monitoring staff advancements, and making sure all financial data is current and well-organized are all tasks that the bookkeeper will be responsible for.
In order to process payments, handle invoices, guarantee legal compliance, and meet all necessary tax and insurance obligations, the bookkeeper will collaborate closely with the finance and administrative officer.
In addition, the bookkeeper will help the finance and administrative officer with routine human resources tasks, such as gathering timesheets, monitoring leave, providing new hire paperwork, and assisting the finance and administrative officer with workers’ compensation or temporary disability insurance forms.
Under the guidance of TVET, the senior technical adviser, the bookkeeper will work closely with the finance and administrative officer. In order to support the objectives of the Empowerment through Skills Program, the bookkeeper is also expected to collaborate closely with all other program staff members both in Tanzania and Canada.
There will likely be some travel within Tanzania as part of the job.
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Document daily financial transactions and finish the posting procedure.
- Keep thorough records of all your financial dealings.
- Maintain accurate financial records, complete with all necessary permissions and supporting documents.
- Check that transactions are assigned to the appropriate general ledger accounts and documented in the financial journal.
- Help project finance and administrative personnel make the required adjustment entries and reconcile the cash book against the bank statement once a week.
- Enter information, keep track of documents, and produce financial statements and reports.
- Examine partners’ requests for payments, advances, and expenses together before entering them into the system.
- Keeping the fixed asset register up to date and making sure the records match the synoptic journal or general ledger.
- Keep track of your car’s fuel use and maintenance by using the driver’s logbook.
- Fill out tax forms in order to meet Tanzania’s reporting regulations.
- Assist the Finance and Administrative Officer with timesheet collection, leave monitoring, new hire paperwork, and any necessary workers’ compensation or temporary disability insurance filings.
- Help the Tanzanian project finance and administrative officer with all facets of financial management, project accounting, and routine human resources tasks.
- Contributes to teamwork by completing relevant tasks as required.
- As directed, carry out further relevant tasks.
Reporting
The Senior Technical Advisor, TVET, or designee at the ESP Field Office, working closely with the Manager of Operations and Senior Program Officer in Ottawa, will oversee and report to the employee.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Proficiency in Swahili and English.
- Tanzanian nationals or those with the legal right to work in Tanzania. Note: CICan will not sponsor people or issue work permits.
- Accredited degree, certificate, or certification in a relevant subject (accounting, finance, business, or administration).
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a comparable position with a global company in financial and accounting procedures, including but not restricted to knowledge of financial bookkeeping, payment processing, and financial report creation.
- Shown proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, where a high level of expertise is required.
- The capacity to efficiently prioritize tasks and plan activities under time constraints and pressure.
- Professional conduct and a strong work ethic.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizing abilities.
- The capacity to operate both alone and cooperatively in a group.
- Excellent computer, data, and writing skills.
