Previously, these combinations were predetermined by the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA). However, starting from the 2024 academic year, the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) has introduced a new system called Form Five Combination. This system allows students more flexibility in selecting their subject combinations, known as “Combination Mpya” (New Combination).

The specialization options for Form Five students commencing in July 2024 are broad and diverse, catering to various academic interests and career aspirations. Under the category of Social Sciences (A), students can choose from a range of combinations such as History, Geography, and Kiswahili (HGK), History, Geography, and English Language (HGL), or History, Geography, and French (HGF), among others. Language-focused specializations (B) offer combinations like Kiswahili, English Language, and French (KLF) or Kiswahili, Arabic, and Chinese (KArCh). Additionally, Business Studies (C) provides options like Economics, Business Studies, and Accountancy (EBuAc) or Business Studies, Accountancy, and Mathematics (BuAcM). These options reflect the program’s commitment to accommodating the diverse academic interests and career pathways of students.
