To efficiently oversee the warehousing and logistics function, to plan and coordinate all business processes to ensure smooth transportation of goods and materials to relevant destinations. (This includes budgeting, reporting, maintaining relationships with vendors etc) To effectively supervise the end-to-end supply chain management projects
Overall Purpose
Overall responsibility for the Group’s Warehouse Operations, personnel and inventory management across multiple warehouse facilities within the organization, including shipping freight management Maintaining relationships with customers to maximize warehouse profits for the Group
Manage the Group’s warehousing operations as an independent business unit with full P&L responsibility; Maximising Shipping Freight to ensure optimization of warehouse capacity Ensuring efficient and effective warehouse operations, maintaining compliance with regulations To promote continual improvement across the Group. Accountabilities & Responsibility Areas
Manage people, systems and processes to ensure optimization of Warehouse operations; Use tech and software of the warehouse to maximize efficiency Find new facilities to increase warehouse capacity Win as much business for the Warehouse as possible, working with Road Freight, Clearing & Forwarding, Trading and Managed Fleet departments
Overseeing teams and staff, assigning staff schedules, organising employee training and developing teamwork initiatives Full ownership of customer experience, interaction and scheduling Complies with local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
Assigns appropriate resources, determines objectives and procedures, and monitors results to ensure inventory is accurate. Manages procedures and controls for hazardous material shipments. Drives the automation strategy for the Group in the warehousing function, utilizing new and existing software to ensure efficiency and replication of all systems across all geographies.
Achieves financial objectives for the line of business, responsibilities include preparing yearly budgets and ensuring cost savings where required. Involved in the business development by maintaining and adding new customers into our portfolio. Health, Safety & Environment. Actively supports Alistair Group health, safety & environment policies and procedures.
Ensures safety of workforce by educating employees on proper procedures and safety guidelines, strives to achieve an accident free workplace and attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcome.
Formal Training/Education/ Experience University Degree minimum. MBA and/or Accounting/Audit preferred At least 10 or more years’ experience in a logistical/warehouse environment (bulk and break-bulk cargo / commodities) Experience in running a business unit independently with full P&L responsibility
Knowledge or experience in the handling and management of government property is strongly desired. Hazardous Materials certification preferred. Proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Office, SAP, Warehouse Management Systems Knowledge & Skills
Good organisation and planning skills International/African exposure. Strong Management Skills, able to efficiently organize a large team. Strong financial acumen Full P&L ownership or running of a business unit Excellent communication skills and analytical skills.
