Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) is a parastatal organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism established in 1980 by Act of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania No. 4 (CAP 260 R.E. 2021). TAWIRI has a national mandate for conducting and coordinating wildlife research and sharing scientific information with stakeholders for sustainable biodiversity conservation. In order to carry out and promote the carrying out of quality research in wildlife, the Institute has to attract and retain high-level and motivated scientists and supporting staff. Currently, the institute comprises five Wildlife Research Centers: Namely Western, Kingupira, Njiro, Southern Highlands, and Serengeti.
Open Positions and Description
1. Research Officer II, 3 Posts (Work Station, TAWIRI)
- To gather, handle, and evaluate information about wildlife management;
- To work together and communicate with research experts in order to disseminate and use research findings as needed;
- To compile pertinent literature and compose research reports.
- To support the collection of pertinent data for disease surveillance and report authoring;
- To establish procedures for handling and immobilizing wildlife in order to investigate diseases and rescue snared animals;
- To create a study proposal in order to raise money;
- To submit study findings to peer-reviewed publications; and
- To carry out any additional relevant tasks that the immediate supervisor may assign.
Qualifications
- Possessing a minimum of an Upper Second Class undergraduate degree and a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management or Wildlife Science and Conservation from accredited universities.
