Tax Policy Regional Advisor at IMF March 2024, Jobs International Monetary Fund (IMF) is looking for Individuals to fill the role of Tax Policy Regional Advisor for East Africa, stationed in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with regional travel required. Reporting to the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., the appointment term initially spans one year, with the possibility of extension based on factors like performance and budget availability.
The Tax Policy Regional Advisor will support FAD Tax Policy 2 division in capacity-building activities for tax policy in selected East African countries. Responsibilities include enhancing tax policy units within Ministries of Finance through institutional reform and training, developing practical skills for tax policy analysis and modeling, including tax expenditure reporting, and providing tax policy guidance to beneficiary nations in consultation with IMF headquarters’ Tax Policy 2 teams.
General qualifications for candidates comprise:
- An advanced degree in economics or equivalent, with at least four years of professional experience. Candidates with 10 years of relevant experience in tax policy analysis, design, and implementation are preferred.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills to handle multiple priorities and ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
- Fluency in English with proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with authorities and stakeholders, handle sensitive matters discreetly, and foster positive relationships.
Technical skills and qualifications required include comprehensive knowledge and experience in tax policy analysis and advisory roles at senior policymaking levels:
- Solid theoretical and practical understanding of tax policy analysis.
- Proficiency in tax policy analysis and modeling, particularly in monitoring and evaluating tax policy expenditures.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills, especially with senior government officials and ministers.

The selected candidate is anticipated to commence the role in August 2024.
Regarding Regional Capacity Development Center (RCDC) selection, if a staff member is chosen for the position, they will retain staff status and move laterally for the duration of the assignment, subject to the limit of staff assignments designated for this purpose. In the case of a contractual employee being selected, they will be hired on a Long-Term Expert (LTX) contractual appointment basis.
