The Nyang’hwale District Council was officially created on March 8, 2013 by an announcement in Government Gazette number 44. Announcement divided Geita District by creating two Geita and Nyang’hwale Districts. Therefore, Nyang’hwale District Council is a product of the division of Geita District.
This district has 1 constituency, 4 Divisions, 15 Wards, 62 Villages and 273 Townships. Also, this Council has a total of 20 Honorable Councilors, of which 15 are elected, 5 are appointed (Special Seats) and one Member of Parliament (1)Nyang’hwale District Council is one of five Councils in Geita Region. It gained the status of being a Council on March 8, 2013 and started working on July,2013.
Nyang’hwale district council was formed from Geita District Council and it has approximately 1450 km squares, the main ethnic groups in the District are Sukuma, Zinza,Kara, Longo.In addition, according to the population and housing census of 2022, Nyang’hwale District has a total of 225,803 residents of which 113,495 are men and 112,308 are women.
