Generator and Mechanical Technician Job at Power Providers Key responsibilities of this role may include:
- Installation and Setup: Installing, configuring and commissioning diesel and petrol generators and associated components (eg automatic changeover switching) according to associated specifications and safety standards. This involves working with electrical wiring, connections, and mechanical components to ensure proper assembly and operation .Responsible for preparing for and installing generator power systems as instructed and authorized
- Maintenance and Inspection: Responsible for the survey and evaluation of client power needs, together with associated reporting requirements. Performing routine maintenance tasks on generators and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This includes inspecting and testing components, identifying and resolving issues, and conducting preventive maintenance activities to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems with generators and associated systems. This involves using diagnostic tools and equipment, interpreting technical documentation, and applying electrical and mechanical knowledge to identify and resolve faults or malfunctions.
- Electrical Systems Knowledge: Having a strong understanding of electrical systems and components, including wiring, circuitry, voltage regulation, and control systems. This knowledge is essential for diagnosing electrical issues, ensuring proper connections, and implementing appropriate repairs or adjustments.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations when working with electrical systems and machinery. This includes following established procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring compliance with electrical codes and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries. Responsible for keeping allocated tools, together with other company equipment, clean and secure
- Documentation and Reporting: Required to create and maintain records and reports related to the installation and maintenance of clients’ generators. These records are to be submitted after each job and should accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and other relevant findings. Additionally, the technician is responsible for recording completed tasks and generating reports that offer a comprehensive overview of equipment performance and the maintenance history.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with other technicians, engineers, and stakeholders to effectively communicate issues, progress, and recommendations related to generators and associated systems. This may involve providing input on equipment upgrades, participating in team meetings, and assisting with troubleshooting efforts.To work in In cooperation with the Stores Manager and to advise the Operations Manager and Senior Technician in the procurement of necessary stocks, tools and equipment specifically required for system installations
- Responsible for basic service requirements for the company vehicles during working days if there are no other demands on his/her time from a client perspective. For larger work requirements on our vehicles, you are, together with the immediate supervisor, responsible for providing oversight for the servicing and/or repairs and to make sure that they are done properly and in good time.
- To be available for any other work that may be required, including the installation of solar power systems and solar water pumping systems
- Answerable to the Operations Manager and Senior Technician

- Education and Training: A degree or diploma in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering,, or a related field is typically required. Additional specialized training or certifications in generator systems, electrical backup systems, and solar technology are beneficial.
- Electrical and Mechanical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles is essential, including understanding electrical circuits, wiring, motors, generators, and mechanical components. Familiarity with solar energy systems and their integration with electrical systems is also preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience in working with generators, electrical backup systems, and mechanical equipment is essential.Â
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, diagnosing problems, and performing repairs and maintenance on generators and related equipment. Familiarity with solar panel installation, wiring, and system integration is desirable.
