DP World Tanzania is now looking for the General Cargo Foreman- Ports and Terminals. Optimize the process flow of general cargo/bulk/RoRo terminal and other goods between land and sea transport by increasing efficiency and productivity.
Key Performance Areas:
- Oversee, inspire, and motivate staff members at all times.
- Briefly exchange information
- When necessary for business, participate in the quay planning and berthing schedule for the vessel.
- Prioritize tasks according to disasters and decide when to halt and resume operations while taking all safety regulations into account.
- Oversee the ship and associated terminal activities, such as horizontal transit, cargo delivery, and cargo stowage.
- Regularly visit the quay to monitor the activities of the vessels.
- Implement, disseminate, and give shape to the terminal policy.
- Make sure that every piece of equipment complies with all applicable safety rules.
- Be sure you accurately record all pertinent information on the amount of cargo passing through the gate.
- Oversee the container terminal’s handling of large or heavy lift cargo.
- To operate vessels and quaysides as productively as possible, make the most of the quay equipment.
- When a vessel is involved in operational activities, coordinate the landside places of work.
- Track and evaluate the productivity norms’ qualitative and quantitative values.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the employees’ work and its financial implications.
- Perform administrative tasks like:
- Reporting
- Reports on ship operations
- Claims and damage reporting
- Organize and uphold staff availability
- Personnel rationale for their presence
- Arrange the necessary equipment for the operations after consulting the technical department.
- Oversee the BGC team’s ongoing terminal staffing.
- Draft, write, observe, and adapt the procedures
- Identify stages in a typical performance management cycle, including setting SMART goals and the processes for monitoring performance effectively and providing constructive feedback.
- Oversee and enhance each team’s and division’s performance to meet organizational objectives and plans.
- Take part in labor supply management to fulfill operational requirements.
- Evaluate the employee under his supervision and develop their skills
- Ensure safe position of cranes during berthing, sailing and extreme weather conditions
- Ensure vessel position in wharf is according to the berth plan
- Ensure all items in the vessel inspection checklist before the vessel starts.
- Administrate vessel operations as per crane work program to ensure set production targets are met
- Serve the clients to meet their satisfaction
- Ensure all external trucks are serviced in the minimum time.
- Ensure trucks are positioned properly in the quay.
- Responsible for acquiring and distribute all the documents to be used for discharge and load operations
- Administrate optimal allocation of available resources to achieve set production targets
- Supervise on-board and on-wharf vessel operations, including lashing
- Ensure confirmation to work procedures
- Liaise with the superintendent for any problems encountered or changes required to the crane program during loading and discharge.
- Ensure safe handling of Cargos
- Give instructions to Forman about work plan
- Ensure that all cargo holds are cleaned and signed off by the chief officer after completion.
- Generate and sign off on accident and damage reports and report it to the superintendent.
- Monitor and record BGC activities during the shift and transmit to the superintendent.
- Monitor and record vessel productivity and delays
- Adhere strictly to all work procedures. (SOP)
- Handle any other task as allocated by GC & Bulk Superintendent
- Able to maintain external contacts with vessels chief officers, RSPA pilots, outsourced companies, mooring men, and truckers concerning all operational matters.
KPIs:
- Safety: Zero damages accidents in shift and follow up all activity according to safety rules
- Traffic control in the BGC storage area and iron ore pellet terminal.
- TTT
- Free Pedestrians within the GC terminal, Reach level of Zero Pedestrian
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor Educational Degree
- Rigging and lifting certificate Preferred
Experience and Skills Required
- Work experience of minimum 4 years and preferable 6 years in the terminal
- Knowledge of Terminal Activities
- Knowledge of Safety Procedures
