Established in 2013, Water Mission Tanzania (WMT) is an affiliate of Water Mission that operates in Tanzania. With three offices spread across three locations—the main office in Dar es Salaam and regional offices in Kasulu, Kigoma Region, and Dodoma—Water Mission Tanzania is expanding and currently employs roughly 52 people. Our goal is to make safe water accessible in a sustainable manner.
What is the opportunity?
The Tanzania Country Director, who reports to the Senior Director, Africa Region, is in charge of executing the Water Mission’s mission in Tanzania, which is to glorify God by creating, implementing, and disseminating cutting-edge, safe water solutions that improve the lives of as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time.
This important role is a job and a calling. Managing a diversified workforce across multiple functional areas, such as human resources, accounting, WASH programs, operations, project management, monitoring evaluation and learning (MEL), ministry, and administration, is the responsibility of this position.
This position will guarantee the successful implementation of Water Mission programs in accordance with Water Mission criteria by utilizing effective management and leadership. Establishing a permanent domicile in Dar es Salaam will be necessary for this position.

- Oversee a group of more than fifty volunteers and full-time employees in three offices located in Kasulu, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam. Program Design Manager, MEL Manager, Office Administrator, Regional Manager Dodoma, and Regional Manager Kasulu are important direct reports.
- Work together and offer direction to Water Mission’s Tanzania Matrix employees, such as the finance manager and human resources manager. These employees are directly accountable to the regional headquarters of Water Mission in East Africa.
- Track and assess Water Mission Tanzania’s performance in relation to the business plan’s objectives, budgets, and important indicators.
- Encourage and cultivate a culture of excellence and quality in Tanzania’s WASH solution delivery.
- Make sure that the enterprise accounting and project management systems for Water Mission are accurate and current with project and operational operations.
- To enhance employee performance, identify knowledge, skill, and ability gaps in the workforce and schedule training sessions as needed.
- Actively collaborate with other WASH-related organizations and the government to further our goals and objectives and assess individuals and groups for possible ministry collaborations.
- Work together across divisions to assist with the grant application, administration, fulfillment, and reporting processes.
- Oversee staff training and development, prioritize project requests, manage workloads and deadlines, set goals, meet deadlines and schedules, conduct performance reviews, and help recruit and hire direct and indirect reports, among other supervisory responsibilities.
- Encourage efforts to improve the health and welfare of Tanzanian employees.
- Encourage employees to focus on love, excellence, and honesty while exhibiting Christian beliefs and practices in their job.
- Participate in the formulation of the program strategy for Tanzania.
- Oversee the creation of documented cost estimates, program plans, and budget proposals.
- Inform the Water Mission’s headquarters on a regular basis about administrative, financial, and programmatic changes and needs related to the country program.
- As needed, prepare and present to partners, donors, volunteers, the Tanzania Program Board of Directors, and Water Mission employees.
- Develop and retain bright, motivated staff members.
- Oversee, lead, and create Tanzania’s Living Water Strategy for Water Mission.
What is required?
- Conformity to Water Mission’s tenets of integrity, excellence, and love as well as its statement of faith.
- Conformity to Water Mission’s adherence to the ideals of servant leadership.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in administration, engineering, business development, public health, or any relevant field from an approved university.
- Demonstrated expertise in overseeing programs worth above $1,000,000 USD.
- Experience living in a developing nation for at least a year, preferably in Africa (similar experience would be considered).
- 7+ years of management or leadership experience, including coaching, training, and developing new leaders.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Kiswahili is a benefit.
- Technical expertise or experience in the WASH field.
- Experience in engineering project management, construction, and/or WASH program design is desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating, overseeing, and monitoring operating budgets.
- The capacity to lead and prosper in a dynamic, ever-evolving environment with particular challenges.
- Experience as a leader in evangelism, discipleship, and Christian ministry.
- Expertise in forming and preserving numerous alliances with governments, UN agencies, Christian ministries, non-governmental organizations, and other development organizations.
- Advanced proficiency in Office 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and vocal communication abilities in multicultural contexts.
- Demonstrated organizational and office management abilities.
- The capacity to solve problems by applying thinking abilities and working through complicated issues.
