In order to support our “A Good Start” project in Morogoro, Tanzania, we are offering an exciting consulting post for a construction adviser with an academic background in engineering, construction, or architecture.
Position Overview
Location: Morogoro, Tanzania
Contract Type: Part-time
Contract Duration: February 2025 – December 2025
Reducing perinatal and newborn fatalities and improving the quality of neonatal care in Tanzania’s Morogoro region are the goals of “A Good Start,” the second project phase (2025–2027). The project will improve neonatal care services at eight medical facilities in the area in coordination with the local health authorities. The project’s implementation research component is crucial since it will guide the creation of future policies.
In addition to other rehabilitation projects, the construction advisor will assist the project manager in managing the building of a new neonatal care unit at a government health institution in Morogoro Municipality. The adviser will work closely with the necessary government officials and the project team.
Responsibilities
- Attend discussions with the SolidarMed team and government representatives regarding the construction project.
- Verify that construction operations adhere to SolidarMed’s Greener Healthcare policy and Tanzanian regulations.
- Offer technical assistance throughout the construction process, the selection of the constructor, and the bidding procedure.
- Collaborate with the government engineer to monitor the quality of the building materials and the construction process.
- Monitor the construction process closely and send regular updates to the project manager.
- Work with the government engineer to provide the contractor with technical support.
Qualifications
We are looking for a motivated individual with the following qualifications:
- A university degree in architecture, engineering, or construction.
- A minimum of three years of construction-related professional experience.
- Expertise collaborating with other groups.
- Competence with the Microsoft Office program.
- Familiarity with green building regulations.
- Building healthcare facility construction experience is advantageous.
- It helps to have prior experience working with INGOs.
- Cooperative team player with strong people abilities.
- Proficient in both written and spoken English.
