In Vienna, Austria, UNOPS is home to the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Secretariat/Program. An independent group called Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) has a global mission to hasten the energy transition in emerging and developing nations. Functional Responsibilities
The STEM trainees will participate in activity-based training as part of the curriculum, giving them actual experience by helping project partners with the various activities. These consist of the following, albeit they are not the only ones:
- Participate in site visits, energy audits, and needs analyses.
- Assistance in raising awareness and educating communities and schools about the advantages of clean cooking;
- Help conduct assessments of the energy requirements for cooking in schools; and
- Work together to carry out energy audits and produce cost-benefit analyses for use in campaigning.
- Supplying cookstoves and instructions
- Help with eCookstove distribution and installation in schools;
- Assist project partners with capacity-building workshops and training sessions;
- Assistance in planning community protests and advocacy activities; and
- Observing:
- Assist project participants with data collection activities; and
- Assistance with reporting and data analysis.
- Participation in Advocacy, Carbon Finance, and Clean Cooking:
- Participate in campaigns that support environmentally sustainable clean cooking alternatives;
- Learn about the processes of carbon finance and how they propel sustainable energy initiatives along the value chains and trajectory of carbon financing; and
- Engage in advocacy campaigns to promote clean cooking policies and increase public awareness.
- Social media and communications:
- Make use of social media platforms to further advocacy campaigns, sustainable practices, and clean cooking initiatives.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
- Prior to applying in a STEM field (i.e., sciences, renewable energy, engineering, or similar fields), candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree (or its equivalent) at a university within the last three years.
Experience
- Although it is not necessary, candidates with past work experience in energy, engineering, finance, communications, or a similar industry would benefit.
Language
- Fluency in English and Swahili is required.
Contract type, level and duration: internship
Only candidates who identify as women living in Tanzania will be considered for this affirmative-choice position, which is open to candidates between the ages of 18 and 35.
The goal of this internship is not to lead to another UNOPS contract. Therefore, at the conclusion of the internship, there should be no expectation of employment.
According to UNOPS internship policy, interns who do not receive funding from other organizations may be eligible for a monthly stipend.
